Build a Better World summer reading logoHuntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) is ready to "build a better world" with you. Join our Summer Reading Club by picking up information at your local library, available starting May 30. It’s easy and best of all, it’s free! All children through 5th grade may participate in a variety of programs throughout Madison County. From animal programs, martial arts demonstrations, and STEAM-based learning experiences, the library has something for kids of all ages.

To mark the start of this busy reading season, HMCPL has several kick-off parties planned. Join us at one of these parties for some summer fun and everything you need to know about participating in Summer Reading:

May 20, 8-11 a.m., Madison Public Library (130 Plaza Blvd.): This year, we've expanded the fun for all ages! Don't miss the chance to participate in fun runs and relay races, touch big trucks, enjoy birthday cake, learn about animals, complete crafts, and, of course, sign up for Summer Reading. We'll have special guests throughout the morning, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Free and open to the public.

    •    June 2, 1-3 p.m., Oscar Mason Public Library (149 Mason Ct.): Come join us as we kick off our summer reading program with games and excitement for all ages. There will be face painting, crafts for all ages, a cake walk, snow cones, and more. Pick up your reading log while you are here. This year, we challenge everyone to participate in summer reading! Moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends. Let's build our community by reading together! Free and open to the public.

    •    June 3 & 4, during library hours, Downtown Huntsville Library (915 Monroe St): Brickapalooza will fill the Downtown Huntsville Library with creativity on Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. Enjoy elaborate LEGO displays, bingo and trivia games, and ample opportunities to build your own LEGO creations. Duplos and Minecraft will be part of the fun, too. This family-friendly event will showcase models built by members of the Tennessee Valley LEGO® Club, a group of adult LEGO enthusiasts, and local First LEGO League robotics teams. Tickets are $5. Children age 3 and younger will be admitted free.

You didn’t think we would leave adults out of the fun, did you? Summer Reading is not just for kids any more. The good part is you get to read whatever you want. The even better part is you can win awesome prizes for doing so. This year we are giving away a brand new Kindle Fire with cover to our grand prize winner!
